Yves Vivier, RPF
President & CEO
Yves is a forest industry executive with 23 years of experience. He is well-experienced in the incorporation of business improvement processes and technology for the management of forests, forest carbon and nature-based solutions. His specialty is in the governance and management structure of forest tenure holders with large tracks of public and private land holdings. He directs a well-seasoned and growing team of foresters, GIS & remote sensing specialists, forest operations supervisors and silviculture managers. Over the last 13 years, in the evolution of his role as Director, Vice President and most recently Chief Executive Officer, he has elevated FRMG to a leader in sustainable forest management in Canada.
As a Registered Professional Forester, Yves first embarked on his forest business management role when he started as a planning forester and GIS application specialist, after a successful stint as a wood purchaser for various forest products facilities in Ontario and Quebec. He led the development of various forest management and GIS-based projects in Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec. After that, he was directly involved in the incorporation and management of 2 of the largest and most successful multi-party Sustainable Forest License (SFL) holders in Ontario. Then he helped develop corporate and civil agreements that paved the way for inclusion and meaningful participation in SFLs for Indigenous communities in Ontario.
Yves has also been directly involved with the Ontario Forest Industry Association (OFIA) for the better part of 20 years. He is currently in the final year of his term as Chairman of the OFIA Woodland Committee, leading various initiatives to streamline forest management planning processes and advocating for improvements in forest policy in Ontario. He authored and led the development of numerous Forest Management Plans in Ontario and Quebec. Yves was recognized as a leader early in his career by the Ontario Professional Foresters Association (OPFA) for his contribution to the profession and forestry sector, when he received the Fernow Award in 2011. Yves holds a Forest Technician Diploma, a GIS Application Specialist Diploma, and a B.Sc. Degree in Forestry from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
